A terrible tragedy occurred over the weekend when an oversized piece of equipment came loose from a trailer on State High 36, crushing a vehicle in its path and trapping motorists inside. The load was estimated to weigh approximately 350,000 pounds and was hauled by a transport fleet.

The incident occurred just before 11:30 am on Saturday, April 27th, 2024, and claimed the lives of two people. A third victim was flown to the emergency room with life-threatening injuries. Temple Fire and Rescue sent 10 units and 25 personnel to the site of the collision, where it took over 4 hours to extract the third motorist from the crushed vehicle.

Here's a post from the Temple Fire & Rescue Facebook page on Saturday with more information:

According to Fox News, the cause of the devastating collision is still being investigated and the victims have yet to be named.

It's important not to speculate as to what exactly happened and wait for the facts. At this point, we don't know if this was human error or a freak accident, but in either case, it's absolutely tragic.

Have you ever seen anything of this magnitude fallen from a trailer? If you haul large  equipment such as this for a fleet, I'd like to hear about your experience. Please feel free to comment below this article or reach out to me via email at Chrissy.Covington@townsquaremedia.com.
