Six Flags No Longer Owns Popular Texas Water Park
A merger just happened two years ago and it looks like a major piece that Six Flags bought is no longer a part of the company.
Back in November of 2023, Six Flags and Cedar Fair merged into one company. This meant Cedar Fair's 17 theme parks around the country would join the Six Flags family. Six Flags would have 42 theme parks after the merger. Well it looks like just over two years later, Six Flags is selling seven of those theme parks to a company called EPR Properties.
Six Flags Announces They're Selling Seven Theme Parks
- Michigan’s Adventure (Muskegon, MI)
- Schlitterbahn Waterpark Galveston (Galveston, TX)
- Six Flags Great Escape (Queensbury, NY)
- Six Flags La Ronde (Montreal, QC)
- Six Flags St. Louis (St. Louis, MO)
- Valleyfair (Minneapolis, MN)
- Worlds of Fun (Kansas City, MO)
The only theme park that affects us here in Texas would be Schlitterbahn in Galveston. I am honestly shocked by the move. Schlitterbahn is considered one of the best water parks in the country, I thought Six Flags acquisition of this was so they could rebrand their own water parks, as Schlitterbahn water parks. Looks like I was wrong about that.
What Happens To These Theme Parks This Year?
- All seven parks will continue normal operations through the 2026 season.
- All 2026 season passes and active memberships will be honored throughout 2026, including multi‑park access.
- EPR retains the right to use the Six Flags brand through 2026, which means you will continue to see the same names, signage, and experiences during this transition period.
Six Flags Losing One of Their Original Theme Parks
Did you know only three 'real' Six Flags exist? Most of the Six Flags you know are actually old theme parks that closed that Six Flags bought up. The only real Six Flags are Six Flags Over Texas, Six Flags Georgia, and Six Flags St. Louis. Sadly the St. Louis location is now owned by someone else. Looks like after this year, any of those parks that are called Six Flags will be changing their name.
