THROWBACK THURSDAY: Skillet’s Was The Late Night Spot In Victoria
It's time for another trip down memory lane for Throwback Thursday. Today, it's all about Skillet's Restaurant on Houston Highway. That was my family's spot after Friday Night Lights. Everyone else went to the north side to IHop, Dennys, and, of course, Whataburger.
The food always hit hard at Skillet's after Friday Night Lights or the Dance.
We went to Skillet's for mainly two reasons. There were way fewer people there, and the food was bomb. Now, sometimes, you might have questioned the cleanliness; however, it never mattered because the food always hit.
You can still see the building falling into ruins and the sign on Houston Highway. The below picture is from 2003. The place is much more rundown now. I know, I am not the only one who misses that place.

Did you know that there were two Skillet's Restaurants in Victoria?
Now there was two Skillet's locations in Victoria. The other location was right off of Highway 59, which used to be called Loop 175. Some might not know that before it was Skillet's it was the Kettle Restaurant, not be confused with Kettle Inn, La Cazuelas which also no longer exists.
Other nightspots from yesteryear in Victoria.
While we are at it, who remembers the Village Inn Restaurant? Today, it's Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant. It was another iconic late-night spot in Victoria. What about DeLago Restaurant?
Eating chips, queso, fajitas, rice, and beans, and homemade tortillas at two in the morning. You're darn right! I am so fortunate that I was able to experience these places growing up in Victoria.
