The days are getting a bit longer lately. If you are like me, you've noticed that at 7pm for the last week or so there is still a little light left. The light along with warmer weather means you likely know what is coming next, a time change. And you aren't wrong.

Spring Forward For Daylight Saving Time

On Sunday, March 10, 2024 Texans will "Spring Forward" by an hour at 2:00 a.m. If you are like me, and most likely not staying awake until 2:00 a.m., just set your clocks ahead an hour before you go to sleep on Saturday night. Of course, you only have to do with with clocks that are dependent on you changing the time. Cell phones, smart alarms, and select other devices will change automatically.

Is This The Last Time Texans Will Have To Change Their Clocks?

The short answer is "no". For all the talk there has been about ending the time change, it's probably not going to happen anytime soon. In 2023 the Texas House voted to stay on Daylight Saving Time, but the federal government doesn't allow states to permanently stay on Daylight Saving Time. So for Texas' plan to work, it would literally take an act of Congress.

The states that do get to stay on the same time year around do not recognize Daylight Saving Time.

Time Change History in the United States

While farmers are often blamed for the reason we have a time change, they actually are not the reason. It's always been about saving energy. In 2005, President George W. Bush signed the Energy Policy Act of 2005 which extended Daylight Saving Time by 4 weeks.
