A recall was issued for two types of fruit puree and apple sauce snacks nationwide and affects Texas.

WanaBana USA has issued a voluntary recall on their WanaBana Apple Cinnamon Fruit Puree pouches and Cinnamon Apple Sauce due to elevated levels of lead found in products.  Lead is extremely toxic to humans of any age.

The WanaBana Apple Cinnamon Fruit Puree was distributed nationwide online and through retail stores.  The product being recalled is the WanaBana Apple Cinnamon Fruit Puree in 3-pack pouches of 2.5 oz.  Those stores include Dollar Tree and Amazon.

Twenty-two cases of illness have been reported as of November 13, 2023.

Schnucks Apple Sauce pouches with cinnamon, 90g.  The lot numbers are 05023:19, 09023:22, and 09023:24 - no injuries have been reported due to the recall

What are the symptoms of lead toxicity?

Short term:

  • Headache
  • Abdominal pain/Colic
  • Vomiting
  • Anemia

Longer term:

  • Irritability
  • Lethargy
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle aches or muscle prickling/burning
  • Occasional abdominal discomfort
  • Constipation
  • Difficulty concentrating/Muscular exhaustibility
  • Headache
  • Tremor
  • Weight loss

If you believe that you or a child have been exposed to lead in these products contact your doctor to receive care.  Lead poisoning can only be diagnosed through testing by a licensed physician.

If you have purchased any of these WanaBana, Schnucks or Weis products with the affected batch numbers, stop using these products immediately.  You can return the product to the place you purchased it for a full refund.
