A 19-year-old on Reddit revealed he had his aunt arrested after she stole his car to go on vacation.

"My aunt has always been somewhat unpredictable. One summer morning, I woke up to find my car missing. Panic set in as I had no idea where it could be. After a frantic search, I received a text from my aunt saying she had taken my car for a family vacation and would be back in a week," the teen began.

The teen was "furious" with his aunt for taking the car without asking him first.

"She had not asked or even hinted that she needed it. My car was my pride and joy, not to mention my only means of transportation. I tried calling her, but she would not pick up. Days turned into a blur of frustration and worry. I had no idea where she was or what she was doing with my car. I felt helpless and angry. Finally, I decided enough was enough and called the police to report it stolen," he continued.

Shortly after, the police located his aunt in a small town "enjoying a vacation with some friends."

"She was arrested and charged with theft. The court sentenced her to one month in jail. It was one of the hardest decisions I ever had to make, but I felt it was necessary to set boundaries and show that her actions had consequences," he shared.

"The whole situation left me feeling conflicted. On one hand, I felt guilty for putting my aunt in jail. She was family, after all. On the other hand, I knew I had to stand up for myself and my property. It was a harsh lesson for both of us, but it ultimately strengthened my resolve," the teen concluded.

Users in the comments section sided with the teen.

"You are definitely not the jerk... She deserved that and was completely disrespecting you," one person wrote.

"Good for you. If she can't be bothered to communicate with a 'close' family member, then she isn't a close family member. I would have done the same thing, except it would have happened on day one. Theft from family is still theft," another weighed in.

"When you are caught committing a crime, jail becomes a thing. I guess she didn’t know that," someone else chimed in.

"She stole your car, despite the fact that you’re 'family.' In what world is that okay? You did the right thing. She won’t try that again," another commented.
