Yep, These 3 Texas Tall Tales Are Totally True – Really!
Texas is famous for things here being bigger and that includes our "tall tales". Sure, every state has 'em but some of ours are true.
Texans love a good "tall' tale and many of ours are just that ... tales. Silly fables or goofy anecdotes at best. No, a shark never swam down a flooded Houston street.
Nor, as much as we'd like this one to be true, is Texas the only state allowed to fly its state flag at the same height as the United States of America's flag. (They all can.)
Some of our urban legends really are true though. There are way too many to hit 'em all here but, here are 3 that are verified, bona fide and Texas tried ..... 'n true.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Is Based On A True Story
This one is sorta true. The movie made that claim just to attract a bigger audience but it is somewhat true as the character of Leatherface is based on real serial killers. Those being Ed Gein and Elmer Henley.
Texas Legislators Once Honored The Boston Strangler
Well, it wasn't really on purpose but yep ... we sure did.
Back in 1971, Rep. Tom (not "Tim") Moore, Jr. of Waco, Texas — knowing that his fellow legislators in the Texas House of Representatives often passed bills and resolutions without fully reading or understanding them — pulled an April Fool's joke on the House by sponsoring a resolution commending Albert de Salvo for his unselfish service to "his county, his state and his community." - snopes
The resolution was repealed.
Texas Has The Authority To Divide Itself Into 5 States
Si Senor.
... from the 1845 joint congressional resolution admitting Texas into the Union. It reads: “New States of convenient size not exceeding four in number, in addition to said State of Texas and having sufficient population, may, hereafter by the consent of said State, be formed out of the territory thereof, which shall be entitled to admission under the provisions of the Federal Constitution.” - smithsonianmag.com
3 tales confirmed, a zillion to go ... man, I love the internet.
