The Beliebers can claim another honor for their beloved pop star. According to Internet search results revealed by Bing, Justin Bieber was the most searched person of 2011. He moved up from his No. 6 ranking a year ago to beat out Kim Kardashian, who fell to No. 2.

There were plenty of reasons to search for Justin Bieber in 2011, as it’s been a busy year for the young pop star, starting with the film ‘Never Say Never,’ followed by his Grammy performance, a year-long world tour, and a new holiday album.

And dating Selena Gomez certainly increased Bieber’s buzz factor. Gomez ranked as the No. 11 most searched person, shooting up from the No. 50 spot she held a year ago.

Five other singers, all female artists, ranked among the Top 10 most searched-for celebs. Thanks largely to her ‘American Idol‘ gig, Jennifer Lopez came in at No. 5, just ahead of Britney Spears and Katy Perry. Lady Gaga, who held down the No. 3 spot last year, fell to No. 9. Rounding out the Top 10 was Miley Cyrus, who didn’t release any new music in 2011 but created plenty of news with the release of photos showing her smoking unknown substances and by referring to herself as a “stoner.”

A separate list of the Top 10 news story searches of the year included two sad music events. The death of Amy Winehouse placed at No. 5, while searches for Michael Jackson and the trial of Conrad Murray ranked No. 7.
