Stranded off the coast of Isla Mujeres, Mexico, the men had been clinging to a kayak, awaiting rescue. The Carnival Jubilee, which had embarked from Galveston, played the role of their savior. Aboard the ship, Houston resident Amir Najafi sensed something unusual.

"I was sleeping and I felt the boat stopping, which is kind of weird on a cruise ship, right? I looked out (of the window) wondering 'is there something going on?" he recounted.

Najafi, on a seven-day cruise with his family, was astonished to see the stranded kayakers. "Lo and behold, I saw these guys and wondered, 'What are these people doing in the middle of the sea off the coast of Mexico very close to Cancún?'" he said.

The ship promptly welcomed the kayakers aboard, where they were evaluated by medical staff and provided with food. The Carnival Jubilee's crew coordinated with the Mexican Navy for a smooth transfer of the rescued men.

SUCCESSFUL IMPROMPTU RESCUE MISSION

Despite this unexpected detour, the Jubilee remained on its scheduled course, heading towards Mahogany Bay, Roatan on Tuesday. Najafi expressed his happiness at the ship's successful rescue mission, a testament to being in the right place at the right time.
