Man Catches Monster Fish After Fishing for 4 Days Straight
Keith Severns hooked a monster of a fish after the ideal combination of conditions set him up for the perfect catch.
Keith Severns went out to downtown Wichita hoping to hook something worth bragging about. After days of strong rainfall over the weekend, the rain raised the level of the Arkansas River, creating a perfect opportunity for some good fishin'.
It didn't happen immediately, Severns really had to put in some time and effort before something jaw-dropping would hook. Severns fished for four nights, hour after hour, never giving up.
“My dedication did pay off. Patience is a virtue,” said Severns.
THE MONSTER FISH FINALLY BITES
Finally, on Monday morning he got the bite he knew was lurking.
“I told my friends, they’re like, ‘You’re crazy! You have to work tomorrow!’ I’m like, ‘I just feel it!’ finally, at 1:30 a.m., I heard that sound,” said Severns.
The line tightened and he instantly knew he was about to battle one monster of a fish.
“I fought that beast. He took me in that current for one heck of a battle downriver,” he said.
Finally, he reeled in the nearly 40-pound flathead catfish. However, the most surprising part is, that Severns admitted he'd caught a fish double the size.
After showing off his prize, he threw it back into the water, hoping it would continue to thrive and get even bigger in size.
“I like to let those big fish go back. I feel like they’ve defied countless hooks, countless odds their whole life, to make it to that status, to those proportions, I give them the respect to go out and live to the rest of their potential,” said Severns.
