Missy Elliott and Ciara Perform “Level Up (Remix)” at the 2018 American Music Awards
It's been a grand night for hip-hop at the 2018 American Music Awards tonight (Oct. 9). Several rappers have walked away with awards and their performances have been the talk of social media. The most recent artist to be tacked on that list is rap veteran Missy Elliott.
The female MC joined frequent collaborator Ciara for her performance of "Level Up (Remix)" sans Fatman Scoop. After showing off her moves in a Janet Jackson-esque fit, Ciara introduced the "Get It" rhymer, who was decked out in Dapper Dan Gucci.
"Ay, I feel good and fly today/And I ain't worried about shit, no way/I level up, get money and devil up (that's right)/Now ya'll can't sit with us, y'all gospel folks, y'all jealous, ay," she spit, referencing "Gossip Folks," her top 10 hit off 2002's Under Construction.
In attendance was Mary Halsey, who met Missy on The Ellen DeGeneres Show after her flawless performance of "Work It" went viral and caught the attention of the hitmaker herself. Missy went on to call Halsey her "funky White sister."
The 2018 American Music Awards have been nothing short of extravagant. Post Malone, Migos, Cardi B and XXXTentacion have already won awards so far. XXXTentacion's mother, Cleopatra Bernard, accepted his second posthumous trophy of 2018 for Favorite Soul/R&B Album.
