Please Lord, Let There Be an Ariana Grande and Madonna Collaboration Coming
Like many wise pop stans, Ariana Grande worships at the altar of Madonna, the music industry icon behind the modern pop star model. (And if God is a woman, as Grande claims, our offertory's on the self-proclaimed Unapologetic B---h.) But could both Ari and Madge be gracing us mere mortals with a collaboration?
Grande's been relentlessly teasing fans with a "surprise" ahead of the release of her next official Sweetener single, "God Is a Woman," due out July 20. And today, while tweeting out lyrics to said single, the pop star randomly took time to thank her idol.
"Thank you Madonna... u know why," she cryptically tweeted alongside a photo of her and Madonna.
At this point, Grande and Madonna — both fiercely feminist Italian-American artists — are probably good pals: After the "No Tears Left to Cry" singer was brought onstage in 2016 for a playful spanking during Madonna's performance of "Unapologetic B---h" on the Rebel Heart Tour, she joined her again in Miami at Madonna's Art Basel charity event later than year.
Geographically, a collaboration would be a piece of cake: After moving to Manhattan, Grande's been seen popping in and out of New York City music studios over the past few weeks — and Madonna just so happens to own a New York City apartment. They were also both in town for the Met Gala — themed "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination" — back in May...
So, does this mean Ari and Madonna have a collaboration in store for us? Is it for Madonna's next album? Is it possible the Queen of Pop hopped onto the Dangerous Woman's upcoming single for a verse? Or did she perhaps just offer Ari some much-needed advice, woman to woman?
In any event, fans thinks something big is brewing. See for yourself:
Is the light finally, truly coming by means of an Ariana Grande x Madonna collaboration? Are we worthy of pop rapture? Was this what "Like a Prayer" was about all along? We're already down on our knees...
