All aboard, the Polar Express really is rolling through Texas, and the Galveston Railroad Museum is giving families the kind of Christmas magic you thought only existed in movies.
If you grew up watching The Polar Express until the DVD skipped, this is one of those full-circle moments. The Galveston Railroad Museum has turned the classic story into a real-life experience.
From now through December 23, 2025, you can hop aboard the Polar Express in Galveston, Texas. This isn’t just a walk around and snap photos scenario, this is an experience. A whole event where you and your kids won’t be able to stop talking about it on the car ride home.
If you plan on witnessing the Polar Express for yourself, then there are a few things you should plan for. Visitors are encouraged to arrive at least an hour early, because that’s where half the fun starts. The train depot transforms into a warm, glowing little Christmas village. You can sip hot chocolate, write letters to Santa, and watch live performances that make the whole room feel like you just stepped into the movie.

Then comes the moment everyone waits for: the train STEAMS into the station, loud and ready to transport you into a movie scene.

Final boarding is ten minutes before departure, and once you’re on, the round-trip ride lasts about an hour. During ride there is entertainment onboard, reenactments just like the movie! When you return, Santa’s waiting. And he takes his time talking and taking photos.
Families can visit the gift shop, check out the food court, and wander around the museum for more photo ops and little surprises tucked throughout the depot.
It’s cozy and nostalgic. It feels just as magical as it looks on Instagram. If you’re looking for a tradition your kids will look back on someday? This is it.
