Port Lavaca Outraged After Bayfront Tables Vandalized
It’s one thing to cause trouble; it’s another to disrespect something built out of love.
Over the weekend, wooden picnic tables were found dumped into the water along Port Lavaca’s Bayfront. These weren’t just any tables; they were handmade memorial pieces crafted by Mr. Ken Reese and Rhonda Braun to honor their families, the Braun and Reese families.
One table was built in honor of Allen Braun, and the other was created to remember Ken Reese’s parents, who spent countless days on that same waterfront fishing and visiting with neighbors. Photos capture the community coming together to recover the memorial tables from the bayfront water.
When locals saw what had happened, the reaction was one of pure heartbreak and anger.
“To the sorry individuals who vandalized the picnic tables on Bayfront by throwing them into the water, I hope you are blessed with karma... You need to grow up and learn respect.”
Thankfully, city worker Al Alborro stepped up and spent his Saturday helping recover the tables from the water. An excavator was brought out to the bayfront and used to lift the tables that were flipped into the water.
The comment section is flooded with community disappointment.
“These gifts were shared by people honoring their own family members,” one commenter wrote, “damaging them is no better than spitting on their graves.”
