Pumpkins are everywhere this time of year; you’ll spot them on nearly every porch. But did you know their colors actually mean something? Each color actually carries a special meaning.

Once October begins, pumpkins begin popping up everywhere. Personally, I'm buying mini pumpkins in bulk at HEB as soon as October 1st hits. I've got pumpkins scattered around my kitchen island, coffee table, studio, and work office. If there's an empty space, there's a pumpkin going there.

Although my disco ball pumpkin is used as a Halloween decoration, many colored pumpkins are used to raise awareness about specific issues. Here are the most common pumpkin colors and what they mean!

What a TEAL pumpkin means!

The teal pumpkin trend, started by FARE, helps kids with food allergies stay safe. A teal pumpkin on the porch means allergy-friendly treats are inside, and kids carrying one signal they have food allergies.

What a BLUE pumpkin means!

The blue pumpkin has become a symbol of autism awareness. It’s a small but powerful reminder that some little trick-or-treaters may experience Halloween differently and might struggle with traditions like saying “trick-or-treat!”

What a PINK pumpkin means!

Pink has become one of the most recognized colors for showing support and raising awareness for breast cancer. Pink pumpkins are a cute way to show support during the fall.

What a PURPLE pumpkin means!

Do you know anyone with epilepsy? In 2012, a parent with an epileptic child launched the Purple Pumpkin Project to support the Epilepsy Foundation. Displaying a purple pumpkin is a great way to show your support and raise awareness.
