Cookie favorite Oreo signaled its support for gay rights this week by posting a picture of its iconic cookie with rainbow-colored cream on Facebook. The photo immediately drew a firestorm of controversy, with some supporting the gay pride image, while others loudly condemned it.

The image quickly earned more then 150,000 likes and almost 40,000 shares, and many of the nearly 20,000 comments were positive. “I didn’t think it was possible for me to love Oreo’s more than I already did,” wrote one fan. “I’ll be buying more Oreos than ever! Keep doing the right thing,” said another.

But many were highly offended by the image and called for consumers to boycott Oreos. “I’m never eating Oreos again. This is just disgusting,” said one commenter. “Unliking page and the rest of the ‘Kraft’ family products… i will not support a company with these views,” wrote another.

What do you think of Oreo’s gay pride cookie? Is it worth the hubbub? And what do you think it tastes like?
