Warning: Stranger Things Season 3 spoilers ahead.

If you're like the rest of the world, there's a very good chance you fell in love with Robin and Steve's friendship in Stranger Things Season 3. Not only did they have an undeniable connection, but they were a great team, too.

But after Steve (Joe Keery) expresses his feelings for Robin (played by newcomer Maya Hawke), she admits she's a lesbian. It was a refreshing twist no one saw coming, but now the actress revealed it almost didn't happen because her character was originally supposed to couple up with the beautiful-haired heartthrob.

In a new interview with the Wall Street Journal, Hawke explained why plans changed as the cast began filming.

“Throughout filming, we started to feel like she and Joe shouldn’t get together, and that she’s gay,” she said. “Even when I go back and watch earlier episodes, it just seems like the most obvious decision ever.”

Last month, Hawke told Variety the decision to make her character gay happened around the fourth or fifth episode. “The Duffer brothers and I, and Shawn Levy had a lot of conversations throughout shooting and it wasn’t really until we were shooting episode four and five, I think, that we made the final decision," she said. "It was kind of a collaborative conversation, and I’m really, really happy with the way that it went."

Everyone seems happy with the show's decision anyway. Now, the two characters have a wonderful friendship that most fans hope leads to epic double dates in Season 4.
