One can not have too much guacamole or avocados in my book, I mean we love it with tortilla chips and salsa, on burgers and sandwiches, in salads, I don't think I know anybody who doesn't like them. So, if you've bought any avocados at the store lately, you may have paid a little more because there's apparently a shortage.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture says the average price is $1.43 per unit compared to 92 cents this time last year. Despite that statistic, the Hass variety is actually down in price this year at $1.38 compared to $1.40 last year.

Officials say a combination of factors are affecting the price including the growing popularity of avocados, and the difficulty of growing conditions. Most of the avocados eaten in the U.S. come from Mexico, and their crop is down about 20% this year.
