No, your mind is not playing tricks on you. Southern gangsta rap pioneer Scarface is running for office in Houston.

Brother Mob first teased his intentions to run for Houston City Council last week on social media. "Should I run for Houston City Council?" he wrote on Instagram. On Saturday (June 8), he announced his official campaign to seek a council seat in the city's District D.

"It’s official," he revealed on IG. "I’m offering myself for service as the next Houston City Councilmember for District D. Join our movement! More details to come. www.bradfordistrictd.com."

Uncle 'Face's campaign slogan is "Of the People, For the People." His announcement was well-received by many rappers who cosigned the idea in the comments.

"I'm here for this," Bun B posted.

"Congrats my brother," Plug One of De La Soul commented.

Over the years, the Geto Boys rapper has been transitioning from hardcore MC to H-Town luminary. Last August, he was honored with his own day in Houston by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and Councilman Dwight Boykins. The rapper's mother, city council members and members of the NAACP were also present.

"You know me as Scarface, but now you get the opportunity to meet Brad Jordan," he told those in attendance. "I've done a lot of music, you know. I've done a lot of speaking of social ... words that take place in our community. That Scarface has turned into Brad Jordan. I really want to let y'all know that I'm getting ready to make a super impact in the community because that's the most important thing to me right now."

Scarface's announcement came a day before conflicting reports about fellow group member Bushwick Bill dying surfaced. As of press time, Bill is in the hospital being treated for complications from pancreatic cancer.
