School Teacher Designs One of the Biggest Mums Ever Made in Texas
You know how they say 'everything is bigger in Texas'? Well, that’s true when it comes to a quirky homecoming tradition that’s taken Yorktown, Texas by storm with a mum so colossal it might just break records!
Wait, I'm not from Texas, what the heck is a mum?!
A Texas mum is a giant, over-the-top, larger-than-life, flower corsage worn during homecoming festivities. What started as a simple corsage quickly spiraled out of control into massive, flashy arrangements decorated with rolls and rolls of ribbons, bells, stuffed animals, lights, and much more. Basically, if it can be hot glued, it can go on a mum.
These hilariously oversized corsages are more about school pride and less about flowers at this point.
These hilariously oversized corsages leave many outsiders scratching their heads, but for us Texans, they’re a beloved and colorful expression of school pride. It’s a bit quirky, a little confusing, and a whole lot of fun—just like Texas itself!
Yorktown Taking Mums to the Next Level!
Emmalee Alatoree is making a Texas-sized statement during her first year teaching in Yorktown. Ms. Alatorre is the teacher in charge of the biggest mum Yorktown has ever seen.
The entire construction of this massive mum took about 2 months. It took a lot of time to create this masterpiece. However, it wasn't all smooth sailing, in fact, the mum originally started at 32 feet long, however, it had to be significantly scaled down due to ceiling height and door sizes in the school building.
