Selena Gomez’s New Music About Past Relationship ‘Abuse’ Made Taylor Swift Cry
Selena Gomez opened up about the raw, emotional reactions her bestie Taylor Swift and Swift's mother, Andrea, had when listening to her intimate new music.
The 27-year-old recounted the moment she played her first two singles, "Lose You To Love Me" and "Look at Her Now," for the "Lover" singer and her family.
"It's gonna make me cry thinking about it," Gomez told KISS FM UK in an interview. "Because it wasn't just about how great the song was, which is a lot coming from her, it was just that they had been on that journey with me, intimately."
Swift has been friends with Gomez since they dated the Jonas Brothers' Joe and Nick, respectively, at the same time. They've been friends for more than a decade.
The Swift women's reactions to the highly personal music included tears.
"They were crying because of how proud they were [of] me stepping into a whole new era of my life, and it not involving the horrible things — the abuse, the emotional chaos. It felt like I had a huge sigh of relief," she elaborated.
"And to see her and her mom feel that way, it was very sweet," the pop star explained, adding that she views Taylor as an "older sister" and Andrea as an "aunt."
The satisfaction of her loved ones also loving her music was everything for Gomez. "It felt great to have people I love see it as that," she concluded.
