Heart of a Champion Boxing Gym has been around for eight years, and Kennidi's Camps has been a tradition for the last five. The Camp is named after Coach Rey Perez's sweet daughter Kennedi who has Cerebral Palsey.

After realizing the community didn't really have a whole lot here for the special needs community, Rey said, " instead of complaining about it, we decided to do something about it." Thus, Kennedi's Camp was born! The two-day camp has been a blast the past few years and always has a great turnout.

This year's camp will be held on October 7-8th from 6:30-8:30 pm. Those who attend the camp will get to experience boxing in a fun environment. Food will be provided courtesy of Golden Corral, and other fun activities like face painting and balloon animals have been offered in the past, thanks to wonderful sponsors. Each camper will also receive a free Kennedi's Camp t-shirt and certificate to commemorate the event.

The gym is currently looking for sponsors for this fantastic and giving event. Sponsors in the past have offered services like face painting, food, and other fun activities for the campers. Donations and sponsorships help with the new gloves specifically bought just for this event, t-shirts for everyone who attends, and much more. If you would like to sponsor or donate to this wonderful event, feel free to contact Coach Rey Perez at 361-220-5458.

Heart of a Champion is full of outstanding and genuine people who volunteer their own time to teach the art of boxing to the entire community. Pooks should know! I trained there and got to be with these wonderful people and had an absolute blast! The gym is a 501C non-profit organization, and their coaches do everything on a volunteer basis.

The gym operates Monday-Thursday and has a variety of classes for everyone! There are classes for kids ages 8-12, 13 and up, and a women's class as well. Heart of a Champion is located at 2402 E Rio Grande Suite H.
