Caught on Camera: Texas Bridge Collapses in Near-Miss Incident
A bridge collapse near Tulia, Texas, was caught on camera and the footage feels straight out of a disaster movie.
Two brothers were driving on I-27 when a crane arm attached to a truck slammed into the overpass at FM 928, knocking a concrete slab loose. Within seconds, part of the bridge collapsed right in front of them.
The dashcam video shows just how close they came to being crushed. The slab hit the ground and skidded across the highway, missing their vehicle by a matter of feet. The driver of the truck suffered only minor injuries, but the incident is raising serious questions about infrastructure safety in Texas.
And honestly, it should. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, nearly 800 bridges across the state are classified in poor condition. That’s not just cosmetic damage, those are bridges flagged for serious structural issues. (TxDOT report).
This isn’t an isolated case, either. In 2022, another Texas bridge made headlines after a crane accident was caught on video. That time, construction workers had to run for cover as part of a crane collapsed during work on a bridge structure. Fortunately, no one was killed but it was another close call.
Texas has one of the largest and most heavily used transportation networks in the country. With more trucks, freight, and traffic than nearly any other state, infrastructure failure isn’t just a risk, it can potentially be a real-time threat.
For now, the Tulia collapse is being investigated. But the video tells its own story: this could have ended very differently.
