Texas Icon, Buc-ee's, Is Madder Than A Sack of Shaved Beavers

Okay well maybe that title is a little dramatic, but our iconic Texas Buc'ees has filed a lawsuit for trademark and additional infringements against a local "Bukys" convenience store in El Campo who happens to have a second location in Rosenberg as well.

What's in a name?

According to the owner of the El Campo and Rosenberg stores, his nickname growing up was Buky's so he used it in his business. But it isn't just the name, it's the color of his logo and most importantly, the font he used for it.

The lawsuit, according to ABC13 includes; "several trademark infringement counts, trademark dilution and violation, several unfair competition and false designation counts, and unjust enrichment."

So we did a logo side by side comparison, but we've also included the inside of Bukys courtesy of Google maps. I don't know about you, but I'm really struggling with the "unfair competition" part of the lawsuit. These are two totally different stores, with stark differences in offerings, space, and likely two very different bathroom facilities.

Here is a photo of the inside of local El Campo Buky's. Looks like this time, it's the outside that counts, at least in this lawsuit.
