You’ve probably heard the usual Texas ghost stories, but there are other legends out here that don’t get talked about for a reason. From winged creatures to haunted highways, here are the untold Texas legends that will make you look twice the next time you’re driving through the backroads.
The Ozark Howler
Said to lurk through remote parts of Texas, this thing’s described as a bear-sized creature with glowing red eyes, horns, and a scream that sounds like a wolf’s howl mixed with a hyena’s laugh. Locals call it a bad omen and swear anyone who’s seen it will supposedly meet death soon after.

Domenech’s Pseudo Goat
Back in the 1850s, a Comanche woman supposedly owned a goat the size of a calf with rose-colored horns and a strange, glossy coat. Scientists think it was just a mutation of a red wolf or calico hybrid, but others swear it wasn’t from this world.
The Houston Batman
In 1953, three people claimed to see a man with bat-like wings perched in a tree watching them. Then the sky flashed bright, and he was gone. More people reported the same thing , whether it was hysteria or something else, nobody ever figured it out.
Texas Stilt Walkers
People say they move like shadows on stilts; tall, spidery, and too quiet to be human. They look terrifying, but the few who’ve seen them up close say the feeling isn’t fear… It’s calm and peaceful.
