Texas Man Hides From Police in a Nearby Home for 2 Hours
A man from North Texas was arrested on Sunday evening following a theft at Walmart, a police chase, and a standoff in a nearby home, according to authorities.
The Hurst Police Department (HPD) reported that officers were dispatched around 12:40 p.m. in response to a shoplifting incident at the Walmart on 1732 Precinct Line Road. The suspect was observed concealing items in his pockets.
When officers attempted to apprehend the man, he fled and sought refuge in a residence on Green Tree Drive, where he barricaded himself. Hurst police and a SWAT team quickly established a perimeter around the house and contacted the suspect via phone, according to an update from the department on Facebook.
After nearly two hours of negotiations, the man surrendered to authorities and was taken into custody without further complications. HPD confirmed he was charged with multiple offenses, including outstanding warrants from various agencies.
During the standoff, Harwood Road was temporarily closed to ensure public safety. No additional information has been released at this time.
