A semi-truck driver from Ennis, Texas was caught transporting an enormous amount of drugs across state lines. 

TRAVELING TEXAS SEMI -TRUCK

Officials received word about a large shipment of narcotics passing through Marion County in Indiana. After an immense investigation, officials were able to locate the alleged shipment traveling inside a semi-truck trailer.

Officials pulled the suspected truck over and approached the driver. Inside the truck was 50-year-old Mauro Alonzo-Vargas from Ennis, Texas. 

K-9 DEPLOYED

While the truck was pulled over, Mina, a narcotics K-9 was deployed and positively indicated narcotics were inside the trailer. A search warrant was granted and that's when officials made a massive discovery.

The Texas truck driver was hauling 130 kilos of suspected cocaine inside his truck. The entire load was confiscated, and the massive drug bust was estimated to have a street value of around 13 million dollars.

“This investigation indicates the great work of our Interdiction Detectives and the partnerships they have formed with other agencies to locate and remove illegal narcotics off the streets. IMPD continues to dedicate resources to combat crime with technology and the support of our community,” said IMPD Chief Randal Taylor.

The more drugs are taken off the streets, the better. Texas is no stranger to drug busts. $600,000 worth of cocaine was hidden inside truck tires while traveling into Texas. Tires are not too uncommon when it comes to hiding narcotics. However, there have been some pretty unique places smugglers have tried to hide drugs. For instance, the Texas border patrol seized 615 pounds of methamphetamine disguised as cleaning supplies.
