Tik Tok Silhouette Challenge Backfires
Tiktok is one of the most successful social media platforms right now. Its algorithm thrives on user engagement, so the content is completely customized for each user.
It is so easy to get sucked in; you can find yourself at 10 pm browsing #CATSoftiktok, then BOOM, it's 3 am, and somehow you've wound up on #WITCHtok, and now you can't sleep for three days.
One of the most significant features of TikTok is the various challenges users constantly put out. One of the newest challenges to hit the social media platform is the #sillouttechallenge.
This challenge has users coming out in baggy clothing then transitioning to tight-fitting clothing as they dance to a mashup of Paul Anka's "Put Your Head On My Shoulder" with Doja Cat's "Streets." Users are charging at this new challenge and using it as a way to strut their stuff.
Unfortunately, some creeps of the online world have discovered hacks and begun to digitally undress unsuspected TikTok users. There have been YouTube videos detailing step-by-step tutorials on how to remove the red filter on videos, revealing what the users are actually wearing(or NOT WEARING)--yikes!
BuzzFeed News' Lauren Strapagiel reported that one subreddit dedicated to editing the red filtered videos called r/SilhouetteUnflitered has been banned for violating Reddit's involuntary pornography rules), and multiple Twitter accounts like @behindthecurtain were taking requests to edit the silhouette videos have also been suspended.
Some TikTok users have taken to the platform to express their concern and stress the importance of either wearing clothing or dropping the challenge altogether.
