That's the quote boldly extended across local Victorian, Matthew Lemke's Facebook page. Underneath Matthew's quote it reads, "Pursuing God's heart- Chiari Warrior-Motivational Speaker-Published Author -College student," powerful adjectives to describe a man who has had an equally powerful transformation. 

Just a few short years ago, Matthew was battling depression that comes with chronic pain. Matthew turned to faith and then to his laptop.

Matthew sits quietly in the corner of the Starbucks, pounding away on the keyboard.

He isn't disturbed by the bustling in and out sounds of the crowds ordering lattes and espressos. He is the kind of writer that enjoys the noise while he writes... and writes he does, every day, faithfully.

His book is Faith Over Fear: My Journey with Arnold-Chiari Malformation.

Amazon offers a synopsis; "Diagnosed with a brain disorder called Arnold-Chiari malformation and a spinal cyst called syringomyelia that would leave him paralyzed, Matthew would face the biggest storm of his life as he endured brain surgery and fought to keep his condition from getting worse. Yet he would come out completely changed. And with God's help, he would pick himself up from rock bottom and learn to walk again."

A Chiari malformation, previously called an Arnold-Chiari malformation, is where the lower part of the brain pushes down into the spinal canal. Syringomyelia is a rare disorder in which a fluid-filled cyst forms within your spinal cord. This cyst is referred to as a syrinx. As the syrinx expands and lengthens over time, it compresses and damages part of your spinal cord from its center outward.

It's the story of his deeply personal journey as a young man suffering daily with Arnold- Chiari Malformations but overcoming that pain with faith. His book, a labor of love, has most recently been read and given a rave review on Facebook by none other than Wal-Mart President and CEO Doug McMillon.

Matthew was stunned when he was tagged on Facebook just learning Doug McMillon not only read but recommended his book a few minutes ago today! Local Victorians as well as family and friends are flooding Matthew's Facebook page with congratulations.
