Around 7:20 a.m., Corpus Christi police responded to a trauma call at City Hall. Upon arrival, they discovered the deceased woman inside the cooling tower. The Corpus Christi Fire Department was called in to assist with the difficult task of retrieving her body from the structure.

WOMAN BEHAVING ERRATICALLY BEFORE DEATH

City Manager Peter Zanoni provided more details, explaining that the woman was seen on City Hall grounds between 6 and 7 a.m., displaying erratic behavior. She reportedly attempted to open secured doors and tampered with equipment related to a roofing project.

A city employee later observed her near a loading dock, where she managed to sneak into a secure area. Security footage revealed that she climbed to the top of the cooling system, approximately 15 feet above ground, before falling into the tower. The fall led to her being fatally struck by the fan blades inside.

CITY HALL HOPES TO REOPEN MONDAY

As a result of the incident, City Hall employees have been asked to work remotely until further notice, though utility billing offices remain open. Zanoni hopes that City Hall will fully reopen by Monday, August 19, as the investigation continues into this heartbreaking event.
