Zach Galifianakis’ ‘Between Two Ferns’ Returns with Jerry Seinfeld, Cardi B and a Special Cameo
It’s been two long, weary years since Zach Galifianakis and Scott Aukerman blessed us with a new edition of Between Two Ferns — the irreverent talk show in which Galifianakis, playing a more obnoxious version of himself, interviews (or makes fun of) various guests between a pair of ferns. But Galifianakis has finally returned with a new episode, this time featuring special guests Jerry Seinfeld, Cardi B and a surprise Seinfeld reunion.
As you might expect, Galifianakis devotes much of the Seinfeld “interview” to ridiculing the comedic icon, making fun of his “lazy, car-based non-comedy” series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee and referring to Seinfeld as a great “launching pad for whites.” Seinfeld gives as good as he gets, however, mocking Galifianakis for his Hangover roles and his bad haircut. The episode also features a special cameo from Wayne Knight, as well as a brief appearance from hip hop sensation Cardi B — who avoids hugging Seinfeld goodbye in what the comedian calls “the opposite of what happened with Kesha.”
Between Two Ferns is produced by fellow comedian Scott Aukerman, who has become the podcasting world’s equivalent of Dwayne Johnson — which may partially explain why he and Galifianakis rarely get together to make new episodes of BTF these days. In addition to his flagship series, Comedy Bang! Bang!, Aukerman currently co-hosts Threedom with Paul F. Tompkins and Lauren Lapkus, and an R.E.M.-centric show with Adam Scott titled “R U Talkin’ R.E.M. RE: ME?” (Aukerman and Scott also hosted the “U Talkin’ U2 To Me?” podcast about U2.)
Previous installments of Between Two Ferns have featured guests ranging from Jon Hamm to Barack Obama. The last episode aired in 2016 and featured Hillary Clinton.
