An 18-wheeler was traveling down I-35 when the driver suddenly lost control. A local Army medic was nearby in a parking lot when he heard a loud noise.

"I looked over and the truck was sliding down the guardrail," said Travis Powell. His instincts kicked in and he immediently bolted towards the huge wreck.

As he made his way to the crash scene he noticed the driver climbing out of the fiery truck. The truck had broken out into a fiery mess but that didn't stop Powell from going into action.

"I asked is anybody in there, he [the driver] said 'My partner, my partner!'"

Powell quickly snapped a photo and began trying to locate the passenger. "I was yelling right at it, I mean there the fire was fairly loud," unfortunately, Powell could not hear anyone respond.

Flames quickly engulfed the 18-wheeler. "The pool of diesel fuel had gone all the way across the road and was trailing down the 35 entrance there," Powell explained.

While Powell was unable to locate the passenger he explained that he had to at least try. "If I'm the first person there, I am obligated to do something, It is in the training to try and help."

The driver suffered minor injuries. Sadly, the unidentified passenger was killed.
