2 Austin Area Children Treated for Rattlesnake Bites Within Days
TWO CHILDREN BITTEN WITHIN DAYS OF EACH OTHER:
It looks like snakes are in the move in Central and South Texas right now. According to a Facebook post by Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services page, they have responded to two pediatric patients bitten by rattlesnakes.
Both incidents involved a Western Diamond Back Rattlesnake as reported by mysanantonio.com. The first occurred at Lakehills Community Park and the second at Pace Bend Park. Both pediatric patients were transported to Dell Children's Hospital for treatment of their bites.

The Western Diamondback Rattlesnake has a heavy population in South Texas. Chances are you are likely to hear them before you see them. There are imposter rattlesnakes out there that beat their tails on the ground. These snakes are a little more aggressive and will rarely back away from confrontation so it is best to always steer clear as if we needed to tell you to keep away from snakes! Snakes are not out and about looking to attack you. So if you are in a snake's home territory, leave it alone and move along. If a snake is on your turf and poses an immediate threat use caution. Otherwise, leave it alone, it wants to avoid confrontation just as much as you do! If you are bitten by a rattlesnake, your first step is to call 911.
