Back-to-Back Tragedies at UT Austin: Two Bodies Found Within Days
In less than one week, a second body has been discovered at a large Austin university.
The University of Texas at Austin has recently experienced a significant presence of law enforcement as deceased bodies have recently been discovered.
The first and second discovery.
On April 5th, just after 5 p.m., the University of Texas Police Department was called out for a medical emergency. When officers arrived they discovered a body with "noticeable trauma" in the university's Perry-Castaneda Library. Police did not believe there was a threat to the public, however, just days later another incident on campus occurred.
On April 9th, another body was found at the campus overnight. Mike Rosen, a spokesperson for UT, confirmed that "there was no foul play involved and no threat to the UT community."
However, two deaths, just days apart on the university campus sparked concern. The investigation for both deaths is still active but officials do not believe the deaths are related.
More fears sparked inside UT Austin.
There are other reasons UT Austin students and their families are feeling concerned as of late. AP News reported that 2 international UT Austin graduates have recently had their student visas revoked, as part of the Trump administration's decision to revoke massive amounts of student visas.
The two graduates, who are originally from India and Lebanon, were about to continue to work in the U.S. after graduation as part of their student visa agreements.
Now, hundreds of students across the country, just like them, find themselves in the same terrifying situation.
Arshia Papari, a spokesperson for Austin's chapter of Students for a Democratic Society explained,
“We have a very large international student community based here at UT and they, like many other students, are rightly frightened and fearful."
