A startling uptick of threats made to schools in Texas by students has sparked officers and school districts to take prompt action to investigate and charge the suspects for serious threats.

Victoria County Sheriff's Office released the following statement about recent threats.

"Separate School Threat Investigations Result in Student Arrests
On Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 12:21 p.m., SROs at the West High School campus were notified by school staff that a 17-year-old male student had made a threat to other students to commit an offense involving a weapon. The student then left the campus. He was located by VCSO deputies at his residence in the county. After questioning him, the student was arrested and transported to the Victoria County Jail due to his age. Brennen Gray was charged with the offense of terroristic threat. He remains in the Victoria County Jail pending bond.
In an unrelated incident which occurred at 12:27 p.m., the Cade Middle School SRO received information from school staff that an 11-year-old male student made threats involving a weapon towards students and staff through the Chromebook messaging system. The SRO immediately identified the student involved and detained him. After investigation, the juvenile was arrested and transported to the Victoria County Juvenile Detention Center. He was charged with terroristic threat.
No weapons in either incident were located on the students or campuses. Sheriff Marr and VISD urge parents to help keep our students, staff and campuses safe. We ask that you speak with your kids about the seriousness of making threats, whether they are made in person, online or through social media. It can lead to serious consequences for the individual persons involved."
