Texas Gets the First-Ever 3D-Printed Starbucks
One Texas Starbucks is stepping into the future, concrete layer by concrete layer.
If you’ve recently driven through Brownsville you may have seen a futuristic structure taking shape. The coffee giant is putting the final touches on its first-ever 3D-printed store, in Brownsville, Texas.
By April 28th the drive-thru-only location should be up and running.
The 3D-printed design
The 1,400-square-foot building looks like something out of a design magazine, with exposed 3D-printed concrete walls and a minimalist, boxy silhouette.
Starbucks teamed up with Peri 3D Construction, a German company known for pushing boundaries with 3D printing in architecture. They printed the outer shell in separate panels, leaving room for windows, doors, and all the coffee shop essentials.
"This location will be Starbucks's first 3D-printed build, made possible through our partnership with Peri 3D Construction,' Starbucks confirmed.
This unique location will be drive-thru only, which feels pretty on-brand for this type of build: quick, efficient, and a little bit futuristic.
Brownsville is already known for being close to big innovation. SpaceX is only 45 minutes away and now more innovative businesses are continuing to pop up.
Texas' growing obsession with 3D-printing
And if you're into 3D-printed everything, Texas is quickly becoming a hotspot for it. Outside of Austin, 3D-printing construction company ICON is working on a number of homes, including in the Mueller and Wimberley Springs developments.
Meanwhile, architecture studio BIG is bringing printed designs to places like Wolf Ranch and even the El Cosmico Hotel in Marfa.
There is definitely a future being built in Texas, this time it comes with a grande cold brew.
