Victoria just got eight new residents—and they’re all future doctors. On June 20, DeTar Family Medicine Residency Program held its White Coat Ceremony to welcome the new doctors who will be training and working in town for the next three years.

These doctors will treat real patients at the DeTar Family Medicine Center and learn about different areas of medicine by rotating through the hospital. The goal is to not only train great doctors but to encourage them to stay in Victoria long-term.

Each doctor was given a white coat during the ceremony. This white coat is a big deal. It’s a symbol that they are beginning their journey in medicine and are trusted to take care of people.

The new doctors are:

  • Kevin Thi, MD

Right now, there are 25 doctors total in the program, including doctors in their second and third years. At the ceremony, hospital leaders and senior residents shared advice, support, and a few jokes to help welcome the new group.

DeTar’s CEO, Bernard Leger, said nearly 1,000 people apply each year for just eight open spots. That means this program is not only competitive, it’s highly respected.

These new doctors will be working hard, learning every day, and helping local families. And if all goes well, some of them might even decide to stay in Victoria for good. So remember these names, one of them might be your future doctor!
