A man has been arrested and charged after dragging an Austin police officer 30 feet while attempting to escape on his motorcycle.

Austin police responded to a 911 call reporting reckless driving late Friday night.

The caller described a large group of motorcyclists doing wheelies and blocking traffic.

Officers pulled up to a large group of motorcyclists.

When officers arrived they located a group of bikers pulling into a nearby elementary school parking lot. As police attempted to locate the leader of the group, they spotted Yannik Rohrer riding a motorcycle without a headlight or taillight. When an officer approached Rohrer, he pulled into another group of bikers in an attempt to blend into the crowd.

A second officer then spotted Rohrer and attempted to detain him, this is the moment things escalated. The officer placed one hand on Rohrer's back and the other on his wrist, but Rohrer suddenly took off. The officer continued to hold his grip on Rohrer and was dragged around 30 feet at a high speed.

Luckily, the officer was eventually able to pull Rohrer off the motorcycle and bring him into custody.

Motorcyclist faces a variety of charges.

The officer injured his left arm from being dragged and was treated for his injuries. Rohrer was arrested and is facing multiple charges, including:

  • Evading detention in a vehicle
  • Unlawful restraint of a peace officer
  • Assault on a peace officer

Authorities continue to investigate the reckless driving incident, and additional charges may be filed.
