NOT DECLARED AT THE BORDER:

There have been two different 'bologna' incidents at two different points of entry in El Paso, within days of each other. As first reported by KVIA.COM in El Paso, two separate seizures of pork bologna at two El Paso ports of entry netted 243 pounds of processed meat. No! The bologna was not concealing drugs, it's just illegal to bring in pork bologna into the USA. In both incidents, the bologna was not declared as the individuals attempted to enter the US by car.

OVER 240 POUNDS OF BOLOGNA DESTROYED

In the first incident, officials discovered five rolls of Mexican bologna hidden under bags of chips weighing 55 pounds. The second seizure of bologna revealed 19 rolls of bologna weighing 188 pounds hidden under the rear back seat of her vehicle. Both were fined $1,000 for failing to declare commercial quantities of bologna. The bologna was seized and destroyed by CBP.

THE OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM CBP...

"Pork products have the potential to introduce foreign animal diseases that can have devastating effects to the U.S. economy and to our agriculture industry," said Director Field Operations Hector A. Mancha. "We ask travelers to declare any items acquired abroad so we can prevent the introduction of potentially harmful products," said Mancha.
