If the title of this article doesn't shock you, wait until you hear the rest of it!

Yesterday, in Webb and LaSalle Counties just 2 plus hours from the Crossroads, Encinal Police and DPS officers found themselves involved in a high-speed chase with an SUV (at one point clocked at 130 miles an hour) driven by a suspected human smuggler.

The insane situation ended with an incredible human smuggling rescue and the arrest of the driver all the while the SUV burned to the ground.

Here is where it gets insane!

According to the official police reports, the assailant who was driving the SUV fled the scene and while agents gave chase, the SUV police were investigating caught on fire.

Because there was no sound coming from a duffle bag that had been stuffed in the back of the SUV, police did not realize there was a 22-year-old woman who had been stuffed inside the duffle bag!

Maybe the most humane thing the human smuggler could have done...

As flames poured out of the van, pushing authorities away from the vehicle, the suspected human smuggler began to scream that there was someone trapped inside one of the duffle bags. Moments later the van was completely engulfed, but thankfully not before an officer risked his life to break a back window and rescue the girl.

According to WFAA, the young woman was in shock when authorities unzipped the duffle bag.

She remained silent during those first few minutes as everyone began to process what had just transpired. "It’s human smuggling, but could be human trafficking as well. And, what makes this case unique is that there was only one immigrant there,” said Hinojosa, the DPS Sergent that had broken the window offers. “So, what were their intentions or what were they going to do with her? We don't know."

Many questions remain, but for today, a 22-year old woman is likely just grateful and very, very, lucky to be alive.

Kens5 reported on this incredible rescue, complete with bodycam footage of the insane situation on Youtube. Here is the real-time footage.
