DeTar Goes Pink to Support Local Cancer Patients This Month
Every October, the color pink takes over. It’s a reminder of the battles fought, the lives lost, and the strength of survivors. Here in Victoria, DeTar is turning that sea of pink into real support for local cancer patients.
If you’ve ever spotted a pink fire truck, ambulance, or even a pink Crown Vic cruising around town, you’ve seen Crossroads Guardians of Hope in action. Their vehicles have become rolling memorials; cancer survivors, families, and friends grab Sharpies and cover them in names, messages, and memories.
How a simple signature helped local survivor.
For Stephanie Schuckenbrock, a breast cancer survivor and DeTar’s Director of Orthopedics and Bariatrics, signing that truck was a big deal. “That was when I finally recognized myself as a survivor,” Schuckenbrock said.

DeTar goes PINK this month and how YOU can help.
This month, DeTar is rallying the community through two simple but powerful events: breakfast and baked goods.
- Pink Out Breakfast: Wednesday, Oct. 15, 7–10 a.m. at DeTar Hospital Navarro’s Café. $10 per plate (cash at the door). Expect pink pancakes, cinnamon rolls, and a whole lot of heart.
- Volunteer Bake Sale: Wednesday, Oct. 29, 9 a.m.–1 p.m. at DeTar Navarro. Homemade treats galore, with every dollar going to Crossroads Guardians of Hope to help local families cover treatment and travel costs.
The message is clear: Awareness matters, but action saves lives. Schedule your mammogram, support your neighbors, and show up for the people fighting. Booking a mammogram at DeTar is easier than ever. Just visit www.detar.com/mammogram; it could literally save your life.
