Chris Brown Released From Police Custody After Rape Allegations
Chris Brown has been released from police custody in Paris today (Jan. 22) following rape allegations.
According to TMZ, the singer and two other people were detained in Paris on a potential charge of aggravated rape on Monday (Jan. 21). This news emerges after a woman accused the singer of rape.
According to the original complaint, a 24-year-old woman says that she met Brown at a club in Paris neat the Champs-Elysées earlier this month. She claims she left the club with the singer and his friends then went back to their hotel, where the alleged assault went down on Jan. 14.
In an exclusive interview with Closer magazine, the alleged victim, under the pseudonym Karima, reportedly told the publication that she and Brown, along with his team, left the club at 4 a.m. She was allegedly convinced to return to Brown's hotel despite her declaration that she was tired.
Once she was in Brown’s suite, Karima alleges that the singer followed her into the bathroom, grabbed her by the right arm and pulled her into a dressing room where Brown allegedly raped her for “25 to 30 minutes.” The victim describes the alleged rape as “brutal and violent.” She also claims that Brown's bodyguard and one of the singer’s friends “abused” her as well.
A source close to Brown told TMZ that the singer was never alone with the alleged victim and that his girlfriend, Ammika Harris, was also in the hotel room at the time. In addition, there were 20 people in the room “hanging out” and listening to Brown’s music via his iPhone.
Karima went to the police two days after the incident happened but initially was scared to speak to authorities. Ultimately, she decided to report Brown so that he doesn’t “do the same things to other girls.”
Following his release from police custody, Brown went on his Instagram page and denied allegations that he raped a woman last week in France.
The Grammy-winning artist posted an image with the words “This Bitch Is Lyin!” written on a photo. In the caption, the singer writes in all caps, “I WANNA MAKE IT PERFECTLY CLEAR…… THIS IS FALSE AND A WHOLE LOT OF CAP! NNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEERRRRRR!!!!!! FOR MY DAUGHTER AND MY FAMILY THIS IS SO DISPRESPECTFUL[sic] AND IS AGAINST MY CHARACTER AND MORALS!!!!!”
The Paris prosecutor’s office told TMZ that Brown has been authorized to leave France while the investigation is ongoing. The singer's attorney had no comment on the matter.
