The highest-grossing X-Men movie ever isn’t X2 or Days of Future Past. It isn’t any X-Men movie at all, technically. It’s Deadpool 2Sweet chimichangas, what is this world coming to?

According to Box Office MojoDeadpool 2 just passed the first Deadpool to become the highest-grossing film in the history of the X-franchise. Here is the full worldwide box office totals for all 12 movies in the series:

  1. Deadpool 2 - $785.9 million
  2. Deadpool - $783.1 million
  3. X-Men: Days of Future Past - $747.9 million
  4. Logan - $619 million
  5. X-Men: Apocalypse - $543.9 million
  6. X-Men: The Last Stand - $459.4 million
  7. The Wolverine - $414.8 million
  8. X2: X-Men United - $407.7 million
  9. X-Men Origins: Wolverine - $373.1 million
  10. X-Men: First Class - $353.6 million
  11. X-Men - $296.3 million
  12. Once Upon a Deadpool - $31.3 million

As you can see, Deadpool 2’s impressive box-office totals don’t even include its recent PG-13 re-release as Once Upon a Deadpool. With those monies factored in, it’s far and away the biggest X-movie ever.

Some of these numbers or affected by the fact that the international marketplace has gotten so enormous in the last couple years; when the first X-Men was released almost 20 (!) years ago, foreign ticket sales weren’t nearly as lucrative. Still, it is interesting to note that three of the top five X-Men movies are solo spinoff films, and that includes the bloody, R-rated Logan. (That also means three of the top five X-Men movies are rated R, which is also surprising.)

Could it be that Fox made too many X-Men movies and not enough films about the individual characters? Let’s see what Disney does with the Marvel mutants when they get full control of their cinematic exploits.
