Fayette County K9 Sniffs Out $260 Million of Fentanyl

It turns out our fur babies might be one of the best resources for finding drugs. Just last week, a K9 in the San Antonio area alerted officers at drugs located inside a vehicle. A total of 5 kilograms of cocaine were found inside the vehicle. The drugs were confiscated and totaled a street value of $400,000.

Yesterday, a Fayette County K9 team found 13 kilograms of fentanyl during a traffic stop. This was enough product to manufacture 13 million pills and be sold for roughly $260 million, according to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office.

According to a post on Facebook by the Fayette County Sheriff's Department , the traffic was for a traffic violation. The stop happened around 9:30 a.m on Tuesday morning. Sergeant Randy Thumann reported after becoming suspicious of the driver, he was given consent to search the truck. The sergeant and his dog, Kolt, found 12 bricks of “raw fentanyl” in the backseat and in a speaker box, according to a release from the county. The driver, Severo Rodriguez (30) of San Juan, was arrested for Felony drug possession and taken to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center. The traffic stop happened on IH-10 at the 661-mile marker.

Fentanyl is 100 times more powerful than morphine. 13 Kilograms of Fentanyl can be used to manufacture 13 million pills with a street value of approximately $260 million dollars.
