From a Texas classroom to the middle of a national murder investigation, this former teacher is making headlines and shaking the lives of everyone he comes across.

Andrew James McGann, a 28-year-old, has been charged with capital murder after allegedly killing a husband and wife while they were hiking with their two daughters in Devil’s Den State Park in Arkansas.

The victims, Clinton David Brink, 43, and Cristen Amanda Brink, 41, were on a family hike with their 7- and 9-year-old daughters when police say McGann fatally stabbed them on July 26. The girls witnessed the attack but were unharmed physically and are now with their families.

After a five-day manhunt, police caught up with McGann on July 31 inside a barbershop in Springdale, Arkansas, just 30 miles from where the murders took place. He was in the middle of getting a haircut when officers moved in.

A Former Teacher With a Chilling Past in Texas

The most disturbing part? McGann used to be a Texas elementary school teacher.

He taught fourth grade at Donald Elementary School in Lewisville ISD, not far from Dallas. Sierra Marcum, whose son was in his class three years ago, described him as "cold" and “standoffish."

"You could ask him a question and he would give you a one-word response,” Marcum told the AP. “Overall, just pretty disinterested in his students.”

Turns out, McGann wasn’t exactly thriving in the classroom. District officials confirmed McGann had been "Placed on administrative leave while the district investigated complaints of poor classroom management and poor professional judgment related to concerns about uneven treatment of students and displays of favoritism."
