V.I.S.D released this press release earlier today:

This week's Victoria West High School varsity football game on Friday, September 25, against Boerne Champion, has been canceled.

Several players on the West Warrior team have tested positive for COVID-19 and many have been quarantined due to close contact with a COVID-positive person. The number of team members in quarantine has surpassed the 20% absentee rate the district implemented for determining whether to consider the closing campuses and/or cancel events. This percentage does not allow the coaching staff to effectively and safely field a team for game time.

The freshman and junior varsity games this week will be played as scheduled.

Fans who have purchased tickets for Friday’s West varsity football game can contact the VISD Athletic office at (361) 578-0289 for a refund.

Our student-athletes and coaching staff have worked hard preparing for this season. While the cancellation is extremely disappointing for everyone, the virus is still active in our community and we must take appropriate steps to ensure the health and safety of our players.

Thank you for your continued support during these times of uncertainty, as we navigate these obstacles together.
