Victoria’s Gingerbread House Workshop Happens This Weekend
Victoria’s always got something going on for the family during the holidays. One of the most fun inclusive events is happening this weekend, if you’re a sweet tooth, keep reading!
The Victoria Public Library is getting things ready for its Gingerbread House Workshop! This year’s workshop will happen on Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Victoria Community Center.
If you’ve never been, it’s exactly what it sounds like: tables full of kids building gingerbread houses, icing everywhere, adults trying not to eat the candy decorations, the whole thing.
Kits are completely free and will be handed out while supplies last, so arriving early is never a bad idea.
The library is bringing extra holiday magic this year. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the event for photos, which is perfect for parents who haven't managed to squeeze in a Santa visit yet (I’m that parent).

Local partners and the Friends of the Victoria Public Library will also be hosting craft stations, giving kids even more to do once their gingerbread masterpieces are finished.
This workshop has been around for 35 years, making it one of the longest-running holiday events in the Crossroads. It also lands during a milestone moment for the library: its 50th anniversary. Programs Manager Brianna Valenzuela says that celebrating both traditions at once makes the event especially meaningful for staff and families.
“The fact that this year is the library’s 50th anniversary makes it an especially meaningful celebration of our library and the people who love the library.”
The event is completely free and open to the public, and it’s one of the few places where you can walk in empty-handed and walk out with holiday crafts, a gingerbread house, and a Santa photo, all in one visit. If you’re looking to kick off December with something fun, easy, and indoors, this one’s a safe bet.
