A heartbreaking and chilling scene unfolded in Houston early Tuesday morning.

A mother was discovered drunk, laid out on a frozen sidewalk with her two babies — one just 2 months old and the other barely 1 year old.

Temperatures had plunged to a deadly 28 degrees, with snow covering the ground in what forecasters called a historic winter storm.

The 911 Call That Saved Lives

Harris County Sheriff’s deputies were called after a concerned passerby had dialed 911 after spotting the woman and her children lying motionless outside.

When deputies arrived, they found the young mother visibly intoxicated with an open alcoholic beverage sitting beside her. Her children showed clear signs of cold-related injuries.

A Miracle in the Making

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez painted a grim picture of the scene:

“The conditions these children were exposed to were life-threatening. It’s a miracle this didn’t end in absolute tragedy,” Gonzalez said.

Officials believe the mother had passed out in the frigid weather. Her vulnerable babies were left lying on the icy sidewalk.

Historic Snowfall and Unimaginable Consequences

This shocking incident occurred as Houston battled rare snowfall.

Some areas reported up to five inches of snow. Treacherous roads and below-freezing temperatures brought the city to a halt.

What’s Next?

The mother is facing child endangerment charges. Authorities urge the public to stay attentive during extreme weather.
