The other night, Texans and non-Texans alike came together to celebrate Willie Nelson's 90th birthday. It aired on CBS and featured a host of modern country music stars, stars from the throughout the history of country music and even several artists outside of the country music genre. It just showed how much of a treasure Willie Nelson is to music and to us in Texas. One thing we wish we could do is make Willie our next president. One store in Gun Barrel City has been saying that for years.

Willie for President

The Great American Package Store is located on Hwy 198 between Gun Barrel City and Mabank. As you get close to the store, a mural will catch your eye. It features one of our favorite Texas singers with an American flag in the background and Willie For President written in the middle. Forget Trump, forget Biden, if this could happen, we would have the most chill country in the world.

Who doesn't love Willie Nelson?

According to CBS 19, when Zac Taylor bought the store in 2014, he had to figure out what to do with the outside walls. Zac contacted Britney Samford, owner of Stop-N-Gogh Studio in Mabank. She took inspiration from a Willie For President poster she had seen. Over the course of two weeks, she painted the mural to greet folks driving down Hwy 198.

Willie Nelson himself even taken notice with a photo of the mural on his Facebook page that has been shared almost 9,000 times:

Fan Britney Samford created a terrific mural in Gun Barrel City, Texas! How cool!

I Hate Politics But I Love This

Willie has been controversial over the last few years as far as his political leanings. Some have even stopped supporting the artist because of it. I think that Willie in office could work. It would certainly be the most chill president this country has ever had.
