It’s no secret we Texans are big fans of pecan pie. But how far would the average Texan be willing to drive for one slice?

Spoiler alert: it’s pretty damn far.

Before I came across this article by Mixbook ahead of National Pi Day (March 14, an homage to the mathematical constant known as pi, which is 3.14), I never gave one thought to just how far I would be willing to travel for a slice of pie.

But as someone who loves pie in general, especially pecan, I started kicking it around in my head. Just how far would I be willing to drive for a slice of what is considered to be the best pecan pie on the planet?

The thing is, I love road trips. So, I’m always looking for any excuse to get out and explore the countryside. For me, road-tripping is just as much about the journey as it is the destination.

That said, I would readily drive to Austin for a slice of pecan pie. In case you’re wondering, I live in Wichita Falls, which is about 5 hours away if you take the scenic route along US-281 as I typically do.

So, according to Mixtape’s survey of more than 3,000 “pie aficionados,” I would be willing to drive twice as far as the average Texan, who would be willing to drive 2 hours and 23 minutes for a slice of pecan pie.

I’ll be the first to admit to having a sweet tooth like a child. But I didn’t realize it was that bad.
